The Knowledgeing Workshop for supervisor competence
 
This course is based on ideas from The knowledgeing workshop, Stories Enhacing Skills, and guidelines for 40-hour course in guidance theory and methodology (FOR February 2004). The course will provide participants with increased awareness of herself as a supervisor and an increased knowledge of their own values and attitudes. The course will be based on participants' own experiences with having given or received counseling and work to identify underlying themes and dilemmas in a concrete event. The course is process oriented, and requires that participants are willing to communicate and process their own experience, both orally and in writing. The participants will during the course of writing an essay on a specific event related to a guidance situation. The course includes approximately 20 hours of lecture and 40 hours a teacher led group. Emphasis is placed on the writing process and the learning that entails. The learning process is directly related to the individual participants with group counseling and one to one supervision, and will contribute to strengthening the personal tutor expertise together with the development of discernment. The course will provide expertise both to lead tutorials on individual jobs, and more case-oriented training, as proposed eg NOU 2009:8.
 
The course is designed for two groups with 6 participants in each group. There are three days of teaching / group work on the UIA, and a week at the monastery Metochi of Lesbos in Greece. Week in Greece is primarily used for writing the essay. There will also be given lectures that will be tailored to the topics students write about, and may for example be: guidance theory, essay writing, the exercise of discretion in social work, trust, power, reflexivity, ethical reflection.
 
Students receive course approved as 40-hour course for supervisors approval of the Joint Organization for child welfare workers, social workers and social educators, when they have submitted approved essay of between 8 and 12 pages.
